Visionary Display
Typeface
A typeface made from intersectional feminist thought and inspired by feminist visionaries. This typeface began by researching connections between Black feminist theory, ecofeminism, cyberfeminism, glitch feminism and feminist brutalism. The practice of typography is inherently not feminist but a feminist approach to type design embraces reflection, identity and collaboration. Visionary Display is open source and invites its users to insight radical change.

The Master’s Tools
Typography is a tool of the master. Embracing a non-canon approach to design, the typeface was made using a feminist process that became a feedback loop consisting of material explorations, reflection, conversations, digital explorations and research. The interlocking semi-circles reference the intersectionality of feminist theory.
Feminist Ephemera
Print makes words physical and is a tool for radical change. The letterpress is an inaccessible tool of the master. In contrast, the risograph is made for reproducibility and (in theory) is accessible as it’s cost effective and not labor or time constrictive. I wanted the feminist typeface to take up space from the perspective of both tools.
